The holiday season is on our heads, and you know what that means. Delectable food, family time, and a whole lot of fun! Of course, all these scrumptious meals and busy schedules take a toll on our skin. Somewhere along the way, the joy of the holidays wears off, and you’re left with a few pesky breakouts. But that’s okay, as it’s all part of the fun. Here are a few ways to give your skin the post-holiday detox and flush all those toxins out of your system ASAP.

The number one thing you should look out for is what you’re putting inside your body. No matter how many serums or ointments we apply onto our faces, if we don’t take care of our body from within, it will be useless. Make healthy smoothies in the morning with a myriad of fruits and vegetables like kale, celery, beets, apples, spinach, and berries, to name a few. They will be delicious and provide you with all the necessary fibers and proteins that you require for a clean gut. This will show on your face because all the antioxidants present in green smoothies will help brighten the skin and fight free radical damage.

Getting glammed up for the holidays is always enjoyable. You can experiment with different looks and go all out. However, it is equally as important to take all this makeup off at the end of the day, no matter how tired you are. The best practice to adopt (and not just for the holidays) is double-cleansing. Start with a cleansing oil or a cleansing balm. Take the appropriate amount and gently massage it onto your face to melt away all the grime and makeup. Make sure to follow up with a water-based cleanser as your second cleanse. This will remove all oily residue and leave you with fresh and healthy skin. No more congested pores post-holidays!

Dead skin cells can also accumulate on your face after a few days of constant makeup and being outdoors. Buff these off via chemical exfoliants or a gentle physical exfoliator. Chemical exfoliators include AHAs and BHAs. Both help peel away dead skin cells and get rid of blackheads as well as congested pores. For physical exfoliants, you can use a gentle microfiber towelette or a soft silicone cleansing tool. Remember to go easy on your skin when using these. Exfoliation is a great way to treat your skin after the holidays.

Lastly, exercise! Working out means increasing the blood circulation inside our bodies. It helps flush out toxins and cleanses the body. Your skin will achieve a beautiful glow because exercising increases the absorption of nutrients and the flow of oxygen to the cells in your body. Plus, you can also burn all the calories that were in your favorite holiday foods. Post-workout, soak in a hot bath with some candles and your favorite body wash. This will be the perfect remedy for post-holiday exhaustion. It’ll have you ready to face the world (and work) head-on the next day!
